AUDIO VERSIONHOLD YOUR TONGUEIt is like our tongues have a mind of their own sometimes. James wants us to be intentional with our words.
If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. James 1:26
James is like that friend who tells it to you straight, no sugarcoating. If you claim to be religious, but your tongue is running wild, deceiving yourself, then your religion is worthless!
It is not only about the big, obvious stuff; it is the everyday conversations, the words we throw around without any thought.
Our words are like little messengers, carrying bits of our hearts. James tells us to put a leash on those messengers and hold our tongues.
Think of your tongue as a wild horse. You do not let it gallop wherever it pleases; you rein it in and guide it. The same goes for our words. We rein them in with kindness, love, and truth.
Our words reveal the true condition of our hearts. If we are talking the talk but not walking the walk, our religion is just an empty show.
Pay attention to the words you say today. Are they building up or tearing down? Are they filled with love or bitterness?
When we hold our tongues, we are not just following the Bible; we are aligning our words with the heart of Jesus and choosing to reflect Him in our speech. When we do that, our religion becomes real!
As we go about today, think about the words that come out of your mouth, speak life, and be a living, breathing testimony of the love of God.Do you need Prayer? We are here to pray with you.
Heavenly Father, You have put all things in order as You are God. As my Heavenly Father, I want to walk in obedience to what pleases You and what is a testimony of praise to You and for all You have done. I set my tongue in agreement with Your Word, and I am asking You to make me aware when words are not spoken in truth as I speak. I know You are my Father God, and Your Holy Spirit lives within. I will put a watch over my mouth that I sin not with my tongue. Thank You, Father. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
