The tithe is controversial in many Christian circles today. Some grace people see the tithe only from a legalistic perspective. Since we are in the age of grace and no longer are under the Law now that we are in Christ, some believe the tithe has no relevance to believers today.

However, a true grace perspective looks at the mighty promise God makes us and which He made conditional on us tithing. God says that when we tithe He will rebuke the devourer for our sakes.

That promise provides a practical and powerful protection to our finances that is not available any other way. When we tithe, we can receive that promise by faith. Then when an unexpected bill comes our way, we can remind God of His promise and watch Him rebuke the devourer on our behalf.

Time and again I have done this and seen that bill reduced dramatically, even to nothing at all.

As a believer you are not cursed if you choose not to tithe. At the same time, this promise is not available to you either if you don't tithe. The choice to receive that promise by faith is yours. You can tithe and receive it. Or you can keep that ten percent and deal with those unexpected bills the best you can yourself.

“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,

Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”

Says the Lord of hosts; — Malachi 3:11 (NKJV)
