Many people think they are good to go for eternity because they consider themselves to be "good Christians." They base their self-evaluation on factors such as their church membership or attendance, the family they were born into, a prayer they said years ago, or because they feel they do less bad stuff (or even more good stuff) than others around them.
The Bible is very clear. We are saved only by grace through faith and not through our own works.
Yet at the same time, true saving faith always produces good works in accordance to the instructions of Jesus. Therefore it is vital that we invest the time to study the scriptures and learn what Jesus instructs us to do. Only then will we know how to do the will of our Father in heaven.
Then, when we are doing His will, we have the peaceful assurance that our faith truly is effective for our salvation. | ||
