In a culture where lying is commonplace, followers of Jesus should stand out because of their integrity. Unfortunately, a great many believers are far more like the culture they are in than they are like Jesus. Christians are just as likely to draw up complex legal contracts in the course of their business, and unfortunately they are just as likely to violate them as the world is too.

Jesus instructed us to be men and women of integrity. When we say something, we should be committed to keeping that agreement. That integrity starts with seemingly small things. When we say we will be somewhere or do something by a certain time, we should follow through and do what we say.

Integrity is a matter of consistency over time. If you have a habit of being careless with your words, today is the best time to repent and begin changing your habit. Think about what you say to people. Be more cautious about what you promise others. Commit to following through with those things you do promise. Your integrity will grow as you become more like Jesus in this area.

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one. — Matthew 5:37 (WEB)
