Sometimes God asks us to give up or give away something really big in our lives. What many don't realize is that He asks those things of us for our benefit. God wants to make room in our lives for something even better than whatever we give away. Plus He's helping us get the law of sowing and reaping working in our lives. The Bible connects doing things for the Lord with receiving our inheritance. Look at what the New Testament says is included in our inheritance: salvation, the blessings of God, the promises of God, and the Kingdom of God. Learn what your new Kingdom inheritance is. It's not that we earn our inheritance. Jesus already paid the full amount due for that. The point is this. The more you understand what is already yours in Christ, what is rightfully yours by inheritance, the easier you will find it to obey God when He asks you to do something.

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.— Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)
