If faith doesn’t move us to do something or say something – to actually take some kind of action – it’s not really faith at all. Until we take action our “faith” is just a bunch of words. James says that unless faith produces action, it is in fact dead, or not faith at all.
Some people get confused and turned around on this point and try to do good things to generate faith. However James didn’t say the good things we do produce faith. He said our faith, when it is real and alive, will naturally move us to do good things.
Do you want your faith to come alive and start producing results in your life? Focus on getting the truth rooted deep into your heart so that you truly believe it. Then, when your heart is established, start taking action on what you believe.
Or maybe a better way to say it is to change your actions to line up with what you believe. Since God's word says Jesus provided healing for your body, stop talking about how sick you are. Instead talk about the spiritual truth of your healing. You don't have to deny the facts of your symptoms. Just start behaving like a healthy person instead of a sick person.
The more your actions line up with your beliefs, the stronger your faith will grow, and the more supernatural results you will see in your life.
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. — James 2:17 (NLT)
