One of the ways that God made us in His image is in the power of our words. We see in the first chapter of Genesis that God simply spoke the universe into existence. His words powerfully impact the physical world. This is evident throughout the Bible.
Even though most people don't realize it, what we say is powerful too. The old adage that, "sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never hurt you" is simply not true. Your words literally add life or death to people and situations.
There is great wisdom in guarding your tongue and refraining from speaking death over yourself and others. Because you are a follower of Jesus and have been adopted into God’s own family, your words are empowered with great authority. Jesus cursed the fig tree and it withered from the roots up. He also spoke life to Lazarus who rose up out of the grave. | ||
