When we allow the love of God to impact us, it completely remakes us from the inside out. For one thing, revelation of God’s perfect love for us casts out all fear in our lives. When you are fearless, there is nothing you can’t overcome.
Part of understanding God’s love for us is seeing that God is not controlling us, as some Christians believe He is. Control is incompatible with love. We know this because there is nothing about control in the Biblical definition of love found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. There we see instead that, “love does not seek its own.” That is the opposite of controlling others.
And it is good news because it means God is not responsible for all the bad stuff in our lives. This truth opens up intimacy with the Father because it is impossible to be truly intimate with someone you think is likely to cause you pain at any moment, even if they think they are doing it for your own good.
When we come to understand that God is not the source of our problems, but rather the solution waiting for us to accept, it sets our lives on a course in an entirely different and better direction. Instead of seeing ourselves as victims, a genuine revelation of God's love reveals how powerful we truly are in Christ. | ||
