BIBLE IN A YEAR
AUDIO VERSION
Paul reminds us of the incredible transformation God works in our lives. Before knowing Christ, we were slaves to sin, caught up in behaviors and mindsets that separated us from God.
But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. Romans 6:17
Paul takes a moment here to thank God for the change that has taken place in the lives of Believers. When we accept Christ, something incredible happens: our hearts begin to change. We are no longer bound by our old ways because we have been delivered into a new way of living.
It is not about trying to be better or doing things differently on our own. It is a heart change, a shift that comes from spending time in the Bible and letting it guide our lives. We have been taught and shaped by the Word of God, which pulls us out of the darkness and into the light.
Obeying from the heart means our actions are not just motions or a checklist. Instead, it is a genuine, heartfelt obedience because we now understand the love and grace God has extended to us. This kind of obedience is not driven by fear or obligation but by gratitude and a desire to honor God. It is about responding to God with a willing and joyful heart.
The gratitude from Paul is not about the fact that we have changed but the fact that God made it possible. He freed us from sin and gave us the tools and teachings to walk in that freedom. This transformation from God in our lives is evidence of His work in us, something we could never achieve on our own.
Be thankful for the patience and the way God continues to mold your heart. Let it shape how you live, think, and respond to His Word. You are no longer a slave to sin; you are free to live fully for God, obeying Him from the heart, and that is the transformational power of God.
