Gene’s Daily Scriptural Postings

27 October 2024

Today the world elevates offense as the greatest sin you can do towards me. But that’s nuts. Even when we encounter something which seems objectively offensive, we are still faced with a choice.

In truth, offense is taken by the recipient, not given by an offender. That means the only way you can truly offend me is if I choose to take offense at your actions. And that also means that I can choose not to take offense, even at the most heinous things you might do towards me.

Telling others that, “I’m offended” is basically announcing that I’m too immature to control my emotions and I need others to do it for me. In truth I have the fruit of the spirit of self-control, which empowers me not to take offense at other’s nastiness.

Besides, the Bible says we are to love instead of taking offense.
