We tend to be far too somber as followers of Jesus. Jesus gave us His joy. His intention is that joy overflows from our lives and gets all over those around us. The Bible says the joy of the Lord is our strength. Not only that, but joy is one third of the Kingdom of God, along with righteousness and peace. We see value in going to the gym to exercise our bodies and make them stronger. Meanwhile, our true strength is found in joy. Why then do we not exercise our capacity to experience joy? A simple place to start is to practice laughing more. Laughter exercises your body and is one way to help increase its capacity to contain joy. It's OK if it seems awkward at first. I felt clumsy the first time I went to the gym. But over time I got stronger and my endurance improved. In the same way, you will grow less somber and more joyful if you stay at it. Push though any initial awkwardness. As you become more joyful, you will become more attractive to others. Plus, you will also grow far stronger than you ever have been while you experience more of God's Kingdom at the same time!
I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.— John 15:11 (WEB)
