There is a difference between being poor and living in poverty. Poor and rich are states of financial condition. Poverty and prosperity are mindsets, conditions of the soul, that affect people's entire lives. They can sometimes be separate from a person's current financial condition. A prosperous person can be poor at times. The Bible says Joseph was prosperous when he was a slave in Potiphar's house. Likewise, someone with a poverty mindset might become rich. For example, they might win the lottery. But those riches won't last unless they change their poverty mindset. That's why 70% of lottery winners eventually go broke. The Bible says poverty is a curse that brings destruction. Prosperity, true prosperity, is a blessing that comes from God. Prosperity is God's favor, anointing, and power to make wealth. Jesus said it is when we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, that all the material things will be added to us. That is because the ways of the Kingdom of God lead us into genuine prosperity. Your financial condition will ultimately follow the condition of your soul.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.— Proverbs 10:15 (WEB)
