Gene’s Daily Scriptural Postings.

One of the great benefits of scripture is that we can learn from the people whose lives are recorded in the pages of the Bible. David is a wonderful example. While he wasn't perfect, David did many things right. We can learn much from his relationship with God. One time David made a huge mistake and left his city unguarded. Enemies raided, took everything including taking all the families into slavery, and burned the city. David's men were furious and wanted to kill him. In that lowest moment of his life when he lost everything and even his good friends wanted to kill him, David did something that we can all learn from. The Bible tells us that David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. He didn't look to someone else to encourage him. He encouraged himself. And he did it through his relationship with God. God has already put in you the ability for you to encourage yourself in Him. He is the only one you can truly depend on, even when your closest friends turn on you. Look to God and be encouraged. You see, what David didn't know is this. That lowest, darkest moment of his life was also the very moment when all the promises and prophecies spoken over him were being fulfilled. The way was being cleared for David to become king. Remember, you won't lose as long as you refuse to quit. Encourage yourself in the Lord today.

David was greatly distressed, for the people talked of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in spirit, each over his sons and daughters. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. — 1 Samuel 30:6 (MEV)
