What does it mean to trust God? Some think it means they can keep trucking along, doing their own thing, and then expect God to show up and clean up whatever messes they make along the way. But that's not it at all. Instead, when we trust someone, we value their opinions, accept their recommendations, and follow their instructions. We aren't truly trusting God unless we do these things. God is looking for people who don't take short cuts and who do things His way. When we build a habit of intentionally trusting God, and doing what He tells us to do when He tells us to do it, that opens the door for God to move in even more amazing ways on our behalf. This means we need to learn God's ways, which involves a commitment on our part to study His word. Otherwise, if we don't have an understanding of God's ways established firmly in our hearts, how can we even begin to really trust Him?

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars. — 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV)
