Gene’s Daily Scriptural Postings.

28 August 2022

Most people, and even some Christians, think that God sits up in heaven waiting for people to mess up so He can punish them. Some say that if God doesn't punish such-and-such a city then He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah. But they are horribly mistaken and don't really know God's character at all. Even under the Old Covenant, God was described as compassionate, gracious, and full of mercy. God is slow to anger. Keep in mind that Jesus told John, "Behold, I come quickly." That was two thousand years ago. If that is an indication of God's "quickly," then how long is his his "slowly"? Not only is God crazy slow to anger, but all that anger was poured out on Jesus on the cross. Jesus took all the punishment we deserved and marked "paid in full" every debt owed by everyone in the world for their ungodly behavior, for all time. God is not out to get you! He's not looking to punish you, nor is He mad at you at all! Instead, He has mercy, compassion, and love for you and for your situation. Will you receive that from God today?

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. — Psalms 103:8 (MEV)
