Gene's Daily Scriptural Postings

24 December 2021 There are Christians who choose to restrict their diets because of things they see in scripture. Others choose to participate in the celebrations found in the Old Testament. Still others adhere to the Sabbath and do no work one day each week. There is nothing inherently wrong in any of that. God put all of those things in place to paint pictures that point to Jesus. The problem comes when Christians hold onto these things so tightly that they argue about how to hold them, or try to force them on others. We don't need to hold the picture so tightly anymore because now we have Jesus with us. And it makes no sense to pull people's attention away from the person of Jesus just so they can focus on a picture of Him. Now, in Christ, the sabbath rest belongs to you 24/7. Jesus did the work for us. He paid the debt for us and wrote, "It is finished!" across the bottom. Now it's up to us to enter into that rest Jesus provides. It takes effort to learn the ways of the Kingdom of God. But that is where you will find rest from the strain and struggle of survival. Seek God's Kingdom and His ways and everything you need to enter into His rest will be added to you. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. — Colossians 2:16-17 (NIV)
