The Bible reveals the way of a believer's life as a combined effort between us and God. God had done His part through the finished work of Jesus on the cross and through His resurrection. God provided our salvation. And it is God's abundant grace that enables and empowers us to receive the fullness of His salvation. At the same time, we are instructed to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. There is still effort on our part to do this and enter into the supernatural rest God provides. It takes effort to renew our minds to the point where we can simply receive by faith what God's grace has already provided. Renewing your mind to the truth of God and to His ways takes effort. It takes effort to trust God for the good results we long see in our lives and let go of the responsibility for producing those results from the work we do. Our responsibility is to plant, water, and harvest the crops. God's part is to provide the growth in the plants so they become fruitful. We work hard, while God provides the increase. When you trust God for that increase in your life, you become free to finally enjoy your work knowing that God commands a blessing on your work. Adjusting your ways to line up with God's ways is how you work out your salvation. And that's how you begin to see God results in your life too!
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but so much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.— Philippians 2:12 (MEV)
