AUDIO VERSIONTHANKS IN EVERYTHINGWe gather with friends and family every year to reflect on the blessings God has given us over the past year. In most families, Thanksgiving is less about gratitude and more about stuffing our faces, watching football, and spending time with the family.
“in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
More than any other year, this year might force us to dig deeper. For many, this was a year marked by hardship. This year make Thanksgiving about giving and about thanks.
Paul tells the people of Thessalonica that they could "give thanks in everything."
Though life may get complicated, and it does, it all falls under God's ability to provide for us, and that is why we give thanks.
We have every reason for gratitude and must remind ourselves and our families of this. We can easily get caught up in our wants and forget about what we have; we want bigger houses, nicer cars, better clothes, and the newest gadgets.
Tonight, we will go to bed with full stomachs and have a roof over our heads. We will ride in a nice car, and we will have a future that includes a good education. All of those are things most people in the world do not have. And so, we should be grateful.
Let us not sit around the table today harping on the election, complaining about the price of gas, and whining about all the injustices.
Instead, we need to reset our gratitude and offer genuine, heartfelt thanks to God for our salvation and His daily blessings.
As we thank God for what He has done, our perspective of God grows larger, and our problems grow smaller. As a result, we will experience a deeper relationship with God as the emotional gap between what we know to be true and how we feel at the moment closes.
Do not wait until God changes our situation, solves our problems, or makes us feel better before we begin thanking God.
Start seeing moments of life through the lens of Thanksgiving, and we will see that God has been there, providing for us along the way!
From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!Do you need Prayer? We are here to pray with you.
“Heavenly Father, it is with a grateful heart that I give You thanks this day. You have given us a country that has its foundation in You. You are the foundation and builder of our lives as we submit to You. I am so thankful this day for so many things. As we share this Thanksgiving with our family and friends, may we always remember to give You thanks for all You have given and all You have done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
