They say ignorance is bliss, but they're wrong. According to the Bible, what we don't know is killing us. We are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The Hebrew word used for "destroyed" also means, "rendered useless," "ensnared," or "held captive." All of this negative stuff and more happens to people who don't know God and don't seek knowledge from Him. Most of the bad things that happen in this world come about because people reject God and His goodness. God loves people so much that He honors their choices, even when they choose to reject Him. What they don't realize is that rejecting God is the pathway to their own destruction. We do well to draw near to God, study His word, and learn His ways. It is through this knowledge of God that we will be set free, made useful, and saved from destruction. Will you invest some time seeking that knowledge today?
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God’s law, I will also forget your children. — Hosea 4:6 (WEB)
