The Bible exhorts us to be thankful in everything. Unfortunately some folks misunderstand that to mean we are to be thankful for everything that happens in our lives. But it's not the same thing. Bad things happen to all of us. There is no need to thank God for the bad stuff. He’s not the author of any bad junk that comes into your life anyway. Yet even in those bad situations, there will always be little sparks of light that we can be thankful for. They may be hard to see at first, especially when life sends a particularly nasty storm our way. But as you build a habit of looking for the good in your situations, you will find it easier and easier. Not only is giving thanks in everything something that God wants us to do, but it brings real benefits in our lives too. For one thing, focusing on the good brings more peace into your life. Plus, being thankful is directly connected to a firmly established faith. It’s yet another example of God simply wanting the best for us. So why not look for more ways to be thankful every day?

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.— 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (WEB)
