Jesus said that when you bear fruit, you do two things. First, you glorify God in your fruitfulness. The reason God is glorified becomes obvious when we understand what Jesus meant in His discussion of fruit in John chapter 15. We have a tendency to see fruitfulness as overcoming or having a positive influence in others. For example, evangelists tend to see winning souls as producing fruit. Nothing wrong with that. But Jesus said in John 15:16 that he was talking about the fruitfulness of answered prayers. God is glorified when you see your prayers answered. Answered prayers is fruit that remains. And Jesus intends for you to bear a whole lot of that kind of fruit because the second thing it does is this. It shows the world that you are one of His disciples. What's the surest way to see your prayers answered? Pray God's word back to Him. Hold God to His own promises. When you do that, He won't let you down because He cannot go back on His word!

In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples. — John 15:8 (WEB)
