The Bible reveals something interesting to us about rest all the way back in the original creation account at the beginning of Genesis. Most folks see that God finished all His work of creation on the sixth day and read that God rested on the seventh day. God wasn't resting because He was tired. Instead, He reseted because His work was done. Yet there is something in the very next verse of scripture than can be easily overlooked. There it says that God added a blessing to His time of rest and He made that time of rest holy. Some remove all the blessing from their time of rest by making it into an obligation in their list of what to do and what not to do. In doing so they miss the whole point. God makes a blessing available when we rest in Him. Our work is important. At the same time, we will have far less stress in our lives when we trust God for the outcomes we see instead of taking on all the responsibility to produce the outcomes ourselves. A huge part of resting in God is trusting Him for the outcomes in our lives rather than trying to make everything happen. The more intimately we learn God's character, the better we will be able to trust Him with the results in our lives. When we trust Him completely, our souls will be truly at rest. And that is a blessing indeed!
