TONIGHT's Topic:  "Misplaced-Hope & Dashed-Dreams"

Misplaced-Hope and Dashed-Dreams

Shawn and Jade had already named their little boy when Jade miscarried at twenty-weeks, so instead of raising Matthew, he is buried in their backyard, a grim-reminder that everything doesn't always go as we planned. Trillia and Thern had three miscarriages before they were finally able to have a baby, and they aren't alone. They joined the thousands of couples who lose a baby to miscarriage or stillbirth every year.

Michael and Mary had grand dreams for their daughter until she was born, and it was discovered that Jessica had serious handicaps. She would never walk or talk, and would never be able to live on her own. Don and Earlene had two healthy girls before Craig was born with serious heart-defects. Craig needed several heart surgeries to repair those problems as he grew up. Thousands of children are born every year with serious defects and handicaps, and dreams of grandkids and finally having an empty nest get flushed down the drain.

We all watched in horror as the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded into a ball of fire. Seven of our brightest astronauts were gone in a flash, a grim-reminder that no matter how great our technology may be, human-life is incredibly fragile. I have a vivid recollection of that day.

When hopes and dreams are dashed, we are reminded of how little is actually under our control.

The Jews had been under the thumb of a foreign government for centuries, and yet they clung tenaciously to God's promise to provide a David King who would establish an eternal kingdom. That promised King was to be the Messiah, who would reign over the house of Jacob forever.

We join two long-faced followers of Jesus just hours after His resurrection, and even though Jesus had conquered death and the grave, they still expected more. Jesus had thoroughly-prepared them for what was going to happen, and still they didn't "get-it". (Luke 24:13-27)

Join us TONIGHT with Steve as we make new connections and start some interesting and positive conversations about "Misplaced-Hope & Dashed-Dreams"

Everyone is welcome!
