My name is Derrick, Army vet, and former law enforcement. I am also a State of Texas certified mental health peer specialist. I focus on veteran and first responder mental health and suicide prevention.

I want to thank Mikel Burroughs for allowing me to post here. I want to thank everyone for reading. I chose Safety Brief as the name of this blog because the overall objective is to share information that helps us all to live our lives as best we can.

In this blog, I hope to address mental health, suicide, and the issues that veterans, first responders, and their families face. We will discuss a variety of topics, have open discussions, and provide support and resources to share.

I do ask that we refrain from politics and religious topics and that we keep this family-friendly. Let's be respectful of each other and know that this is a safe space.
