"On this day only a short time ago, in 1954, President Eisenhower put forward a plan for the United States Interstate system. In less than 70 years, the highways of America are without a doubt vital to our transportation needs and in fact, our very survival.
What most don't know is that the Interstate system was originally designed to move troops and machines quickly in the event of war
on home soil but it has quickly evolved into a necessary and often critical method of moving people and products across this great nation.
Much like Ike and his Interstate, our emotions were built for our survival as well. Our emotions tell us when to love something, fear something, crave something, or even become suspicious of some things. In that way, we travel through life on these emotional highways connecting ourselves to other people, places, and things along the way." — Air Force Veteran Steven Bates
