Gene’s Daily Scriptural Postings

Jesus said we can only serve one master, God or mammon. The choice is ours. It is impossible to serve both. The one we serve has a direct impact on our hearts. Jesus said we will hold to the one and despise the other.

This means we have an excellent indicator of who has a greater influence over our finances. Our own heart exposes it. How we respond to issues relating to money reveals the one we truly serve.

Those who despise talk of Kingdom giving are holding their money too closely. If the offering talk frustrates you, or if you argue against a particular Kingdom giving principle, then Jesus said you are holding your money tightly. When that's the case, mammon is more your master than God.

When God is instead our master, we look for opportunities to give and encourage other believers to do the same. Instead of being frustrated when the offering time comes, we enjoy that opportunity to worship God, celebrate His goodness, and rejoice at His blessings in our lives. Serving God opens up an entire Kingdom of His financial promises which will allow us to prosper without all the stress and baggage that mammon enslaves humanity with.

Which master will you serve?

No man can serve two or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. — Matthew 6:24 (KJV)
