THE RIGHT ATTITUDE

King Solomon reminded us of how we should treat those around us, especially those who might be less fortunate or in need.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he. Proverbs 14:21

The Bible verse contrasts two attitudes: one of disdain and another of compassion.

It first discusses despising our neighbors. Now, despising does not necessarily mean outright hatred. It can be as subtle as ignoring their needs, looking down on them, or failing to acknowledge their humanity.

When we despise our neighbors, we fail to see them as fellow human beings deserving of love and respect.

On the flip side, the Bible verse speaks of mercy on the poor. Mercy is about extending kindness and compassion to those in need, regardless of their circumstances.

It is about recognizing the dignity and worth of every individual and reaching out to help them in whatever way we can. Solomon highlights that those who show mercy to the poor will find happiness.

Think about it: when we choose to show kindness and mercy to others, especially those who are less fortunate, it not only blesses them but also brings joy and fulfillment to our lives.

Knowing we have made a positive difference in the life of a stranger brings a sense of satisfaction and contentment.

Now, this does not mean we have to solve all the problems of the world or become advocates for every cause. Instead, it is about cultivating a heart of compassion and being willing to extend a helping hand whenever we can.

Challenge yourself today to live out this Bible verse in your daily life. Treat your neighbors with love and respect, showing mercy to those in need.

Whether through simple acts of kindness, volunteering your time, or lending a listening ear, make a conscious effort to be a source of blessing and happiness to those around you.

And as you do, you will experience the true joy that comes from living a life of compassion and mercy.
