The truth will indeed make you free, but only when you know it and believe it. The challenge is that most of the ways the world does stuff is exactly backwards from the ways God does them.

Before you became a believer you were steeped in the world’s system, likely for a great many years. Therefore, renewing your mind is more often a process than a momentary things. Give yourself time to soak in God's ways.

You do this by meditating on the word of God. Pick a passage of scripture and ponder it as you go through your day. The more time you give yourself to think about the truth, the more quickly you will be transformed into the image of Christ.

You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
