We are exhorted multiple times in the Bible to be like God. We can do that because we have been adopted into the family of God. He is now our true Father. He loves us totally and unconditionally.

As children of God we can respond in the ways that God would respond because that is our identity in Christ. Children imitate their fathers. Plus, we have the very mind of Christ now that we are born again. And the Holy Spirit has taken up residence in our spirit.

Since you are dearly loved by God, you can imitate Him without fear. That's who you are now as a believer. Discover how much God loves you, and learn God's ways. As you learn, determine in your heart to walk in those ways of God.

Being a child in this way in Heaven will make you mature here on Earth.

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. — Ephesians 5:1 (HCSB)
