God anoints people for specific assignments. We see this in the lives of both Saul and David. God told Samuel to anoint Saul king specifically to save Israel from the oppression of the Philistines.

Saul was anointed king for the purpose of warfare. But Saul was not diligent in carrying out God's instructions. Later God told Saul to wipe out the Amalekites. When confronted, Saul lied about it saying he killed them all except their king Agag (whom Samuel killed). We know Saul was lying because much later Esther 3:1 says Haman, the villain who plots to kill all the Jews, was a descendant of king Agag.

The very next thing Samuel did after God removed his anointing from Saul was to anoint David king. David was a man after God's own heart who followed God's instructions passionately.

The lesson here is that we qualify for God's anointing by being faithful to God's instructions. Do you want to see God do amazing things through you? Then build a habit of faithfulness in following God's instructions.

Be obedient with the little things God tells you to do today. That will qualify you for promotion, bigger assignments, and potentially God's anointing specifically to carry out those assignments.

Now the Lord had revealed in the ear of Samuel one day before Saul came, saying, “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin. And you will anoint him to be leader over My people Israel, that he may save My people out of the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come unto Me.” — 1 Samuel 9:15-16 (MEV)
