The only way to overcome evil is by responding with good. Proverbs tells us the wisdom in being kind to the enemy who has wronged us. This is one example where the Kingdom of God is exactly backwards from the world. Returning kindness when people wrong you is the best way to get back at the person in the Kingdom. The Bible tells us that when we do that we “heap coals on their head.” It is so foreign a thing to do that returning kindness when wronged shocks most people with shame, which softens their hearts and potentially opens the door to repentance. Plus, God will reward you for that kind act too. He promises that you will reap what you sow. Therefore, when you sow kindness into the lives of others, especially when they don’t deserve it, you can be assured that you will reap a harvest of kindness in return. Just remember, even though we are certain to harvest whatever we plant, most times our harvest comes from a different place than where we planted. This means you can trust God to bring your harvest to you without attaching any strings to the people you express kindness towards. Be the light in your dark world, and watch your environment change. People will naturally be drawn to your light and want to know what makes you different. That is perhaps the best way to expand the Kingdom of God. |
