People do all sorts of things attempting to earn God's favor or get Him to move on their behalf. Most folks understand that God bestows His favor on those He considers righteous. Therefore much of the world focuses on doing good things in order to hopefully get to a place where they are seen as righteous enough they deserve some measure of kindness from God.

But that's backwards because righteousness with God is not earned through behavior modification. Instead it is revealed in the good news of Jesus Christ.

The only way to be counted righteous by God is to accept by faith what Jesus did on your behalf. It's all received by faith, not just the salvation part.

Then, once you have a revelation of your new identity in Christ, your behavior will naturally change to fit the new way you see yourself. It's not a case of those who do not sin are seen as righteous. Instead, those who get a revelation of God's righteousness in Christ by faith are released from the bondage of sin. Then their behavior becomes that of a righteous person.

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. As it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” — Romans 1:17 (MEV)
