Jesus said that eternal life is knowing God intimately. God offers this as a free gift to as many as will receive it. By definition, a gift must leave room for the intended recipient to refuse it. The moment pressure, manipulation, or control come into the process it ceases to be a gift. True gifts are not forced unwillingly on their recipients. That is called obligation. This means you have a decision to make. Will you accept or reject this gift of eternal life that God offers to you? Why not accept His offer to get to know Him personally and intimately? It's a gift with benefits you can continue to enjoy for the rest of your life and on into eternity. We make things too complicated. Really, the Christian life is all about intimacy of God. The Bible calls this fellowship. It's about knowing God and making Him known to others, plain and simple. John 3:16 is the most quoted verse in the Bible. There it clearly says the reason God loved us so much is so we could have “eternal life.” Jesus later told us that eternal life is knowing God. This is why Peter's denial that he knew Jesus was so serious. He was denying the very purpose Jesus came to earth — for us to know God. |
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 6:23 (WEB) |
