Strife is one of the big problems in our world. Yet, as followers of Jesus we are called to be peacemakers. In fact, the Bible tells us to pursue peace with all people. But that doesn't mean you should become a doormat for everyone to walk over all the time.

For example, the best response to a bully for the long term is to stand up to him. Sometimes the quickest path to real peace is through confrontation. Unfortunately, many followers of Jesus don't understand healthy confrontation.

Plus, confrontation of any kind is hard and unpleasant. So many opt instead for the easier short-term solution, and avoid the confrontation all together. But that path leads to all sorts of other relationship problems.

You are empowered by the Holy Spirit to pursue peace, even when the path to peace leads through confrontation.

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. — Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)
