Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

IMITATING WHAT IS GOOD |
John gently reminds us how much we are influenced by those around us. Every day, we see examples, some inspiring, some less so. Whether it is people we admire, voices we listen to, or habits we develop, we’re always learning from others. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God. 3 John 1:11 John’s words encourage us to pause and thoughtfully choose who and what we follow. When John says, Do not imitate what is evil, he is not just warning us about obvious wrongs, he was also cautioning us about the subtle attitudes or habits that can quietly pull us away from God. Sometimes, things like pride, gossip, bitterness, or self-centeredness can infiltrate our lives without our realizing it. Even little things can shape our hearts over time. On the other hand, when we choose to imitate what is good, we are looking to people who reflect God’s heart, those who live with humility, kindness, patience, and truth. Most of all, we can look to Jesus as our perfect example. His life shows us how to love deeply, serve others with joy, and forgive freely. John’s words also remind us of who we are: He who does good is of God. Doing good is not about earning anything, it is a sign that we belong to God. When we spend time with Him, His goodness naturally flows through us, and we get to share His grace with a world that needs hope and love. Today, take a moment to notice who or what is shaping you. Ask yourself, whose example are you following? Let God’s goodness shape your heart and habits, even in the middle of life’s noise. When you choose to imitate what is good, you are showing the world that God’s love lives in you.
