Sermonizing can be an ineffective way to influence people to change, especially for those closest to us. Laying out a bunch of facts is less powerful than telling compelling stories because stories draw people in and help them hear what you have to say. True stories are even more compelling than made up fiction. If you've been walking with God for longer than a moment, then you can share what He's done for you and how you relate to Him. Share God's goodness. Sharing the good things God’s done in your life is far more powerful than telling folks how wrong their sin is because it is the goodness of God that leads people to repentance. It doesn't take complex theology. Your own story is one of the most powerful things you can ever share. Next time, don't preach. Instead just tell them what God did for you. Then watch the Holy Spirit impact their heart. |
“Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” So he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. — Luke 8:39 (MEV) |
