Is It Truly Over?

In reference to today March 6 1991, President George Bush stated to Congress, "the war is over"... I wrote this anniversary poem for all the veterans out there whose war is never over.....

Is it Truly Over

Is it Truly Over?

​Have we really won?

Are we really closer,

To battles being done?

Are we really homebound,

to safety, warmth, and love?

No more sleeping on ground,

and watching skies above?

​Can we just forget this war

like it never really happened?

or like a festering, blistering sore,

am I forever blackened?

Can I truly walk away,

and clear this from my mind?

Will I relive it every day?

Will the future treat me kind?

Am I cursed to walk this Earth,

with memories haunting me?

​questioning if it was worth

the pain and agony?

Will it ever be over now?

The war, will battles rage?

Will anyone ever show me how

the war to disengage?

​Will the fighting ever stop

In my mind will things be still?

Will I ever come out on top?

My God, I hope I will!

Pray for me and others like

who wars will never cease

Pray for our health and our psyche

And that we finally know some peace
