Drop in with Volunteer and Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).
We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

"The New Mission – Defining Chapter 2!"

Join Mikel & Friends as we discuss the "The New Mission – Defining Chapter 2!"
Ever feel like you’re a high-performance engine idling in a parking lot? You’ve got the power, but where’s the road? Join us with Warriors for Life as we discuss The New Mission. We’re moving past the 'glory days' and mapping out the 'growth days.' See you there!
For many of us, our identity was forged in a uniform. We knew the mission, the rank, and the rules. But what happens when the uniform comes off, or the shift ends? The "Warriors for Life" spirit doesn't end—it just needs a new objective.
📍 Defining the "Mission Statement" for Your Future

We aren't just "retired" or "former"—we are transitioning into a new phase of leadership. Here’s how we look forward:
For Veterans: Your mission is no longer "The Mission"; it’s Mentorship and Legacy. How can you use your experience to build your community or family?
For First Responders: Your mission is Sustainable Service. How do you continue to help others while finally prioritizing your own "maintenance" and longevity?
For Active Duty: Your mission is Preparation. How are you building the version of yourself that exists outside the chain of command?
🤝 The Role of the Caregiver: The "Tactical Advisor"

Caregivers aren't just observers; they are the most critical members of the support element. In "Chapter 2," a caregiver’s role shifts from supporter to co-pilot:
Identifying Strengths: Caregivers often see the "civilian" strengths in a warrior that the warrior can't see themselves (e.g., patience, strategic thinking, empathy).
Encouraging New Hobbies: Help "scout" for new interests that provide the same adrenaline or purpose without the high-octane stress.
Holding the Line: Reminding the warrior that their value isn't tied to their old rank, but to the person they are today.

⚡ The "Mission Re-Org" Checklist: Tactical Steps for Growth

To move into "Chapter 2," we need to treat our personal lives with the same precision we treated our professional service. Here is how we execute the pivot:
1. Conduct a "Personal Gear Inspection" (Self-Assessment)

Before you can move forward, you have to know what you’re carrying.
The Tactic: Identify three "service traits" that serve you in civilian life (e.g., discipline, punctuality) and one that is "dead weight" (e.g., the need for total control or the "suck it up" mentality).
Action: Consciously "leave at the gate" the trait that no longer fits the current environment.
2. Establish a "New AO" (Area of Operations)

Many warriors feel lost because their "battle space" disappeared.
The Tactic: Find a physical or social space that is entirely separate from your past service. This could be a gym, a classroom, a volunteer organization, or a creative workshop.
Action: Commit to one "Non-Service" activity per week where you are a student, not an expert. This humbles the ego and fuels growth.
3. Define the "Commander’s Intent" for Your Home

In the absence of orders, we drift. You need a personal "Commander's Intent" to guide your daily decisions.
The Tactic: Write down your "End State." What does a "win" look like for your family or your health six months from now?
Action: Every morning, identify one "Primary Objective" that moves you toward that end state. If it doesn't support the intent, it’s a distraction.
4. Caregiver Strategy: The "After Action Review" (AAR)

Caregivers can help by facilitating a safe space to process the day without the "chain of command" pressure.
The Tactic: Implement a 5-minute "Low-Stakes AAR" at the end of the day.
Action: Ask: "What went well today? What was a friction point? How do we adjust fire for tomorrow?" This turns "complaining" into "problem-solving."
5. Reconnaissance for New Purpose

Don’t wait for a "calling" to hit you. Go find it.
The Tactic: The "10-5-1" Rule. Research 10 new interests, try 5 of them once, and commit to 1 for a full month.
Action: Stop over-thinking the "perfect" next move and start "scouting" through action.
