TONIGHT's Topic: "Tagore's Tree Tale!"
"Rabindranath Tagore (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) was a Bengalipolymath—poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. In 1913, he became the first lyricist and non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature and only the second non-European after Theodore Roosevelt to win a Nobel Prize. His lyrics are the words for two national anthems (India and Bangladesh) and the inspiration for Sri Lanka's. However influential Tagore was, his profound wisdom can be summed with his story of planting trees. Basically, Tagore implores us to be the one to plant the tree, after all, he says, "The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life." I fully agree with Tagore on this matter. Our lives should be about the future we leave for others, so this Wednesday, let's discuss "planting our trees" for the future of humanity. No, we are not talking literal trees for climate change, but planting the roots of future projects that will benefit others farther down the line. Let's talk Tagore's trees on Wednesday!
