TONIGHT's Topic: "Misplaced-Hope and Dashed-Dreams!"

While 2020 didn't get off to a very auspicious start, and it seems that everything has gone downhill from there, many of us had made plans for what we hoped to accomplish last year, whether it was job aspirations, or planning a long-overdue vacation, and then the MOAB hit. When COVID-19 hit our shores, we were told that it was going to be a "pandemic" of epic-proportions, and everything changed overnight. Suddenly, it wasn't whether a person was going to get a better job, but whether they were still going to have a job. Vacation plans were no longer about where you were going to go, but about whether you would be able to go on vacation. The question is no longer "When will things return to "normal"?", but "What will the new "normal" look like?".

2021 didn't get off to any better start, because, while we did get three new "vaccines" for COVID-19, their "14 days to halt the spread" has morphed into eighteen months, and things still haven't returned to "normal". If anything, 2021 has gotten worse. Vacation plans got scuttled again, because, even if there was some place to go, we can no longer afford to go. This new "normal" sucks.

In the lead-up to the 20th Anniversary of 9-11, when we pause to remember those who lost their lives on 9-11, we were reminded - again, that terrorists are still as great of a threat as they were twenty years ago. We just lost thirteen of our finest Brothers and Sisters, young men and women who put their lives on the line, and paid the ultimate price, thanks to a terrorist with a suicide bomb. Far more devastating than the loss of life was the countless hopes and dreams that were dashed because of those tragedies. Survivor's worlds were turned upside-down. Becoming a "Gold Star Family" is a distinction nobody wants to have. Whether it is a national tragedy, or something more local, tragedy strikes when we least expect it. Nobody is immune.

We will join two long-faced followers of Jesus as they trek the road between Jerusalem and Emmaus, just hours after His resurrection, and even though Jesus had conquered death and the grave, they still expected more...
