TONIGHT's Topic: "Pondering Pavlov & Conditioned Responses"

"Ivan Pavlov was born on this day, Sept 14th, back in 1849 in Ryazan, Russia. While most people know the story about Pavlov training his dog to salivate by ringing a bell before serving food, the fact is it was actually normally a metronome or a buzzer that was used to trigger the conditioned response by the canine.

Another incredible fact about Pavlov is that he was outspoken against communism even while living in Russia!

In fact, Pavlov, who was a physiologist, not a psychologist, as many think, even publicly stated he was ashamed to be Russian. So, what does Pavlov and conditioned responses have to do with veterans? Very much! Our reactions, especially with PTSD, are conditioned responses to trauma that we have developed over time and through training." - TSgt (Ret) Steven Bates

Tune in Wednesday night as we talk about our conditioned responses to trauma and how we deal with automatic reactions to situations.
