TONIGHT's Topic: "Unwinding from War!"
"Today, Jan 11th, marks the 32rd anniversary of Congress approving the ground war of Iraq, thus moving America to a war status an entire generation had not seen since Vietnam. America went from the relative peaceful existence that we knew in the 80's and 90's to a wartime attitude. Now, some 30 years later, our children, and their children, growing up in only that environment, have learned all too well what deployments to hostile areas are, what blue star and gold star families mean, and what the effects of war on society and its protectors has. Things are supposedly winding down again, perhaps for another generational gap of peacetime, but the effects of wartime in America still weigh heavy on its citizens. Transitioning to peace is often hard for the veteran as well. There's a saying that goes "the military trains you to go to war, but it never trains you to come home". Let's spend time tonight talking about unwinding from war, both as a nation and as a veteran. How do we transition? What resources are there to help us?" — TSgt Steven Bates
