Today’s Message is: “Deep Breath Day!” Why Not?
“A leader will have stress that can overtake their life and provoke anxiety. That is not a failure of their leadership, but a fact. They can also experience over-breathing, but that can be changed. That is when they need to practice deep breathing by focusing on the exhale, not the inhale. Extend the exhale and continue to march through the stress!" — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Good Monday afternoon Colonel.
Good morning Col Burroughs. A great topic, as per usual. When I was Deputy Sheriff working street patrol, I would have times of great stress, which of course required talking over the radio to dispatch. I would take a deep breath, to calm myself before keying up the mic to talk to the dispatcher. This often times would solicit a concern from the dispatchers because most of the Patrol would get very excited voices, which definitely caught the attention of the dispatcher and other units in the field. My calm demeanor on the radio didn’t convey the urgency of my situation. I preferred to not have to repeat myself and have folks guess what I was saying.
On another note,…
I've had to stop and take a deep breath more times than I can count......it always seems to work!
