Join our Volunteer, Army Veteran & Peer Support Specialist/Supervisor Derrick Iozzio TONIGHT for "Forever Forward!" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, sponsored and presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).
We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

TONIGHT's Topic: "The Shadow Knows!"

Join Derrick and friends TONIGHT for "The Shadow Knows!" A discussion on shadow work and mental health.
Shadow work is exploring and integrating the hidden, repressed parts of yourself (your "shadow self")—like suppressed emotions, trauma, or "negative" traits—to achieve self-acceptance and wholeness, directly supporting mental health by healing past wounds, understanding triggers, reducing self-sabotage, and fostering deeper self-awareness, confidence, and healthier relationships. It brings unconscious patterns into conscious awareness, transforming them from sources of distress (like anxiety, anger, or repeating behaviors) into understood aspects of your personality, leading to greater emotional balance and inner unity.

What is Shadow Work?
Origin: Coined by psychologist Carl Jung, it's the process of confronting the "shadow self"—unconscious aspects deemed unacceptable by our conscious ego, often formed in childhood due to societal pressure or trauma.
The Shadow: Includes both "dark" traits (anger, selfishness) and positive ones (assertiveness) that were suppressed; it's not inherently bad, just hidden.
Goal: Integration, not elimination; bringing these hidden parts into conscious awareness to understand and accept them, rather than letting them control you unconsciously.

How it Relates to Mental Health
Heals Trauma: Addresses root causes of present issues by working through old wounds and difficult experiences stored in the psyche.
Reduces Triggers: Helps identify and understand the unconscious reasons behind strong emotional reactions (triggers), allowing for healthier responses.
Decreases Self-Sabotage: Uncovers self-defeating behaviors and beliefs that stem from these hidden parts, leading to increased self-confidence.
Improves Relationships: By understanding your own projections and hidden needs, you can connect more authentically with others.
Increases Self-Awareness & Wholeness: Creates inner unity and a more robust, resilient sense of self, fostering deeper well-being.
