If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

On September 25, 1956, the first transatlantic telephone cable went into service. Engineers found a way to carry people’s voices beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
Seventy years later, some of us still need three drafts to text, “Want to get coffee?” Then we add “No worries if not” so many times it sounds like we’ve canceled the invitation ourselves.
Reaching across an ocean took remarkable engineering. Reaching out to a friend can take a little courage of its own.
The Company We Enjoy
If you’ve spent years responding when people need help, a call with a clear purpose can feel familiar. Someone needs an answer or a hand with something. You know where you fit. Veterans, First Responders, friends, and family members can all find themselves in that dependable role.
Calling simply because you would enjoy someone’s company can feel less familiar. We wonder whether we’re interrupting. We wait until we have something important to say. Sometimes enough time passes that saying hello starts to feel like it needs an explanation.
Yet some of the company we treasure is wonderfully ordinary: a conversation around a kitchen table, a shared errand, or sitting together while both people claim to be watching the same television show.
It means something to hear, “I just like talking with you,” especially when you’re often the person people call for help.
