Drop in TONIGHT with Volunteer and Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

TONIGHT's Topic: "Who Are You & What Do You Become?"

Join Mikel and Bella TONIGHT and let's get together online for the Warriors for Life (WFL) as we talk about "Who Are You & What Do You Become?" A discussion about what 'you' are, what 'you' become, and what 'you' can be, when it comes to your mental health.

“If you never heal from what hurt you, you’ll bleed on people who didn’t cut you.” — Tamara Kulish

"You" refers to each individual, and your mental health is your emotional, psychological, and social well-being, a dynamic state that fluctuates with life experiences, personal resilience, and external factors, influencing your ability to cope with stress, relate to others, and thrive. When mental health is poor, life feels like a struggle, but with support and self-care, you can improve your well-being, even if you have a mental health condition.

What "You" Are

  • A whole person: Mental health is about your overall state of well-being, not just the absence of illness.

  • Someone who can thrive: You have the capacity to learn, work, and contribute to your community.

  • An individual with varying needs: What works for one person may not work for another, and your needs change over time.

What "You" Become (When Mental Health is Poor)

  • Struggling: Life can feel harder, marked by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, exhaustion, or overwhelming stress.

  • Overwhelmed: You might have less energy for daily tasks, work, or caring for yourself and others.

  • Potentially vulnerable: Personality traits or difficult life events (like loss or financial issues) can make you more prone to poor mental health.

What "You" Can Be (When Mental Health is Good)

  • Resilient: You can cope with life's stresses and bounce back from challenges.

  • Purposeful: You have a sense of meaning and can build fulfilling relationships.

  • Active: You can realize your potential and contribute positively to your community.

Factors Influencing "Your" Mental Health

  • Internal: Personality, self-esteem, and coping skills.

  • External: Relationships, environmental factors, financial stability, and community resources.

How to Care for "Your" Mental Health

  • Practice self-care: Eat well, exercise, sleep enough, and engage in enjoyable activities.

  • Connect with others: Build strong, healthy relationships and get involved in your community.

  • Manage stress: Learn relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga.

  • Set realistic goals: Work towards achievable personal and professional aims.

  • Get support: Seek professional help from a doctor or mental health professional when needed.

  • Challenge stigma: Don't let negative stereotypes prevent you from seeking or offering help.

Key Takeaway: Your mental health is a journey, not a destination. By understanding its components and actively caring for it, you can improve your well-being and ability to navigate life's ups and downs.
