We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

Wisdom from Tom T. Hall

ree

"Tom T Hall, a prolific country music singer/songwriter who died on this date in 2021, was once asked the best advice he could give to anyone entering show business.  His three-word answer still resonates today as one of the most profound pieces of wisdom for navigating life in general.  That response? 'Just show up'.  An Army veteran who served from 1957 to 1961, Tom T Hall understood what it meant to 'just show up.'  It meant commitment to a task, dedication to an ideal, and a valuable sense of self-worth and purpose.  It meant that you had consigned yourself to a job to be done, a promise to accomplish an assignment, or at least give it your best.  In dealing with our mental health crises, we need to adhere to Tom T Hall's advice to the entertainment business and apply it to our own self-care processes.  We need to Just Show Up!  The first step is showing up to work on our issues, then we can learn to identify them, use proper coping skills with them, and strive to improve our mental health."

"Just Show Up" for your mental health means actively prioritizing and taking care of your mental wellbeing, even when it feels challenging. It's about making small, consistent efforts to support your mental health, recognizing that it's a journey, not a destination, and that there will be good days and bad. This can involve seeking professional help when needed, practicing self-care, and fostering connections with others.
