Join Derrick & Friends TONIGHT to Talk About the "Holidays & Mental Health!" with Warriors for Life (WFL)

Join our Volunteer, Army Veteran & Peer Support Specialist/Supervisor Derrick Iozzio TONIGHT for "Forever Forward!" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, sponsored and presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

Causes of Poor Mental Health During the Holidays

ree

The holiday season can negatively impact mental health by increasing stress, anxiety, loneliness, and depression due to financial pressures, family gatherings, and high expectations, while also worsening existing conditions for many. However, the holidays also offer positive opportunities for connection, gratitude, and reflection, which can boost well-being if individuals focus on self-care, set boundaries, and manage expectations.

Positive VS Negative Impact of Holidays on Mental Health

Coping Strategies

  • Set Realistic Expectations: Accept that celebrations don't have to be perfect and that it's okay to change traditions.

  • Practice Self-Care: Prioritize sleep, exercise, and time for yourself to maintain healthy habits.

  • Set Boundaries: Don't overcommit; be willing to say no to protect your time and energy.

  • Seek Support: Connect with supportive friends and family, and don't hesitate to seek professional help if feeling overwhelmed.

  • Manage Finances: Create a budget and stick to it to alleviate financial pressures.
