Join Mikel & Friends TONIGHT for "Future Plans!" with Warriors for Life (WFL)

Drop in TONIGHT with Volunteer and Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

Join Mikel and Bella TONIGHT and let's get together online for the Warriors for Life (WFL) as we talk about "Future Plans!" A discussion about what is next for you, what are your personal goals, future relationships to build accountability, priortizing your mental health, work on your mental healing, and what's next in your mental health journey.

Some common future goals people set for their mental well-being. Key strategies include building a strong support system through social connections, prioritizing physical health with exercise and a balanced diet, and practicing daily mindfulness and self-care techniques like journaling or meditation. Setting specific, measurable, achieveable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals can make these efforts more effective.

Key areas for future mental health planning:

1. Cultivate a strong support network

  • Connect with others: Regularly schedule time to talk with supportive friends, family, or community members.

  • Join groups: Participate in groups or activities that align with your interests to build new connections.

2. Prioritize physical health

  • Exercise regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week to boost your mood.

  • Eat a balanced diet: Focus on nutritious foods, as there is a strong link between gut health and mental well-being.

  • Get enough sleep: Establish a consistent sleep schedule, and try to limit screen time before bed to improve rest quality.

3. Practice daily mindfulness and self-care

  • Try mindfulness and meditation: Dedicate 5–10 minutes each day to breathing exercises or meditation to reduce stress.

  • Journal your thoughts: Write down your thoughts and feelings to process experiences and increase self-awareness.

  • Practice gratitude: Take time each day to acknowledge things you are thankful for, whether big or small.

  • Limit negative input: Be mindful of news and social media consumption to avoid information overload and negative comparisons.

4. Set and track goals

  • Make goals specific: Instead of "feel better," aim for "practice deep breathing for 5 minutes a day".

  • Track progress: Monitor your goals to see what is working and to stay motivated.

  • Stay consistent: Start with small, achievable goals and gradually build from there.
