Drop in every Saturday evening with Volunteer and Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support that Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is providing via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

"Relationships After Trauma — Rebuilding Trust, Restoring Connection!"

Welcome to "Burly's Warriors!" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) tonight as we discuss understanding how trauma affects relationships, recognizing the impact on those closest to us, and discovering practical ways to rebuild trust, communication, intimacy, and meaningful connections.

“The wounds we carry may change how we connect, but they don't have to determine who we connect with or how deeply we love.”

When someone experiences trauma, the experience doesn't always end when the danger passes, the uniform comes off, the emergency call is over, or the difficult chapter of life is behind them.

Sometimes the hardest part begins afterward.

You come home, but home doesn't always feel the same.

You sit at the dinner table, but your mind is somewhere else.

Someone asks how your day went, and you answer, "Fine," because explaining what's really happening inside feels like trying to describe a storm to someone who's never seen rain.

You love your spouse, your children, your parents, and your friends, but sometimes you struggle to let them get close.

You may want companionship but find yourself withdrawing. You may want to talk but cannot find the words. You may want to be understood but become frustrated when someone asks questions.

And here's something we don't talk about enough:

The people standing beside us can be hurting, too.

They may not have experienced the same trauma, but they experience the changes it can bring. They may feel confused, rejected, worried, exhausted, or unsure of how to reach someone they love.

Sometimes both sides are trying desperately to protect the relationship, but neither knows how to take the first step.

Tonight, we're going to talk about relationships after trauma.

Not to point fingers. Not to assign blame. Not to determine who's right or wrong.

We're here to understand what trauma can do to our connections with other people and, more importantly, what we can do to begin rebuilding those connections.

We're going to talk about the difficult conversations, the misunderstandings, the loss of trust, the emotional distance, and the importance of remembering that the people who love us are not our enemies.

Here's something I want everyone to remember tonight:

You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to share something you're uncomfortable discussing. You can participate, listen, use the chat, or simply take something meaningful away from the conversation.

We're not here to judge anyone's journey.

We're here to remind one another that connection is still possible.

Let's get into it!

Your mission this week: Make one connection stronger than it was yesterday.

It's about recognizing that invisible wounds are real, that struggling does not make you weak, and that you don't have to walk through those struggles alone. So tonight, I want everyone to remember our Burly’s Warriors! rule:

"Because sometimes showing up is the first step toward finding your way forward!"
